About Event

This year’s IGEL Training School will take place on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd July 2026. The Training School will focus on “Early Career Researchers in Empirical Literary Studies”, highlighting the work, experiences, and research trajectories of young scholars in the field. The event will be held entirely online via Google Meet, and will run for two days, each session lasting around 1 hour 15 minutes. The first day we would meet at 15pm (CEST time) until 18 pm, while on July 2nd we would be meeting from 15.30pm to 17.30 pm. There is no fee to participate, as this event is free of charge. The aim of this year’s Training School is to provide MA and PhD students, early-career scholars, and anyone interested in empirical literary studies the opportunity to learn from fellow researchers currently developing innovative projects in the field. Through presentations and discussions, participants will gain insight into project initiatives, collaborative work, and different academic pathways within empirical literary studies.

The event will feature the following speakers:

  • Cristina Loi and Giulia Scapin will jointly present the ELIT project, discussing its aims, methodology, and the experience of collaborative research within empirical literary studies.

  • Elena Prat will introduce the READ-IT project, providing an overview of its objectives and research activities.

  • Gabriele Vezzani will reflect on the academic experience of simultaneously participating in multiple research projects, discussing both the opportunities and challenges involved.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with current research in empirical literary studies while learning from the experiences of early-career scholars actively working in the field, as well as to hear about what other participants are researching and have opportunities to network. The sessions will encourage discussion about research practices, project development, collaboration, and career paths in academia.

Note: More senior researchers who might not be interested in the Training School may feel absolutely free to forward this to their students or anyone else they think might benefit from the event.
